Proposed chemical treatment program for Conventional Commercial Citrus Orchards for Asian Citrus Psyllid control**

In commercial groves, effective psyllid control starts with a dormant spray when psyllids are overwintering as adults. We recommend two dormant sprays, the first done at the beginning of the overwintering period (mid October-November) and a second one in winter at the end of that period before the first spring flush of the year (January – mid February). At least one dormant spray must be made to ensure that many adults are killed before the first spring flush of the year.
Additional sprays are required during the year and the best time is just before each major flush in the grove.  Traditionally, four major flush cycles are observed in Texas, but it is important to note that several grove care practices such as hedging/pruning/topping, irrigation and fertilization can stimulate flush production. In addition, a flush cycle will likely follow a major rainfall. With these influential factors in mind, it will be important for growers to get ready for psyllid control at all times. Several chemicals insecticides can be used for psyllid control.

** Four treatment periods are recommended in citrus orchards for effective psyllid control:

1. Pre-bloom as dormant spray (end of January to mid-February) to target overwintering adults. For this treatment use a contact pesticide such as Danitol, or Danitol in combination with a growth regulator such as Micromite

2. Post-bloom spray during the flushing period in late April to May. Use either Agri-Mek which as a translaminar effect or a foliar spray with a systemic material such as Provado or Actara. Alternatively, growers may use a soil application of a systemic product such as Temik or Admire Pro. Note that Admire Pro will provide effective control for trees young trees and trees not bigger than 8 ft tall. For Temik, make sure to make foliar spray within 30 days of Temik application.

3. Foliar spray of systemic and/or contact insecticides in late July to August

4. Foliar spray of a contact insecticide such as Carbaryl or Chlorpyrifos in October.

*Approved organic pesticides are relatively less effective and must be applied at high levels (e.g. copper salts, sulfur) or must be applied frequently (e.g. pyrethrin).

++ Do not apply sulfur and oil simultaneously. It is necessary to wait at least two weeks after applying sulfur spray before using spray oils.
